FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Downtown Fresno coffee shop is dealing with a shattered storefront, after a crash near Fulton and Stanislaus street Thursday night.<\/p>\n
Amy Clay, lead barista at Cornerstone Coffee, witnessed it firsthand.<\/p>\n
“We just heard the skid marks. So when we looked up, we seen the truck hit the side of the coffee shop, and then it went into the tree,” Clay said.<\/p>\n
Video of the scene moments after the crash shows Fresno Police hauling away two mangled vehicles, as employees watch in disbelief.<\/p>\n
Police say the driver of the black truck ran the red light before hitting a red dodge challenger and then careening into the coffee shop.<\/p>\n
The crash resulted in only minor injuries, but associate pastor at Cornerstone Church, Nathan Franklin, is grateful there weren’t more victims.<\/p>\n
“The workers within this coffee shop. It closes at five. They usually walk home at 5:30 like on the dot, that accident happened at 5:30 it could have been worse,” Franklin said.<\/p>\n
The street is typically crawling with people, bookended by the church, and Warnor’s Theater, Franklin says this type of incident is nothing new.<\/p>\n
“We’ve seen at this corner an accident probably every few months, from one that many of them that have hit this building to thankfully not hit any pedestrians, but have come real close,” he said.<\/p>\n
Despite the damage, it was business as usual at Cornerstone Friday.<\/p>\n
The non-profit is run by people from Lighthouse Women’s Recovery Home, Clay told us she was ready to get back to her regular routine.<\/p>\n
“I even was ready to, like, clock out and keep working, because I was like, I love this coffee shop. This is, like, my second home,” she said.<\/p>\n
Franklin says the city has done great work to bring people Downtown, but hopes they’ll carry that effort into improving infrastructure, saying, “It’s not always people that make you feel safe with town traffic moves, and so having places where pedestrians can walk, move to and fro from downtown, that’s what we’re concerned about.”<\/p>\n
