BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 Moo Creamery was vandalized Thursday, just a month after its move to Downtown Bakersfield.<\/p>\n

Moments after a brick was thrown through the restaurants window, Dignity Health Arena had its window smashed by the same person.<\/p>\n

The Bakersfield Police Department\u2019s Impact team was formed to deter downtown crimes like vandalism but it\u2019s an ongoing battle. One man, 40-year-old George Callahan, allegedly broke both windows early Thursday morning and the reason why is unknown.<\/p>\n

Just a few blocks away, surveillance video shows Callahan allegedly breaking into Dignity Health Arena. The Bakersfield Police Impact team made the arrest. Over 23 officers fill out the group dedicated to raising the quality of life downtown.<\/p>\n

Lieutenant Nicole Anderberg is in charge of the impact unit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the month of January the impact unit arrested one individual for vandalism, and in February so far we arrested two individuals for vandalism,\u201d Anderberg said.<\/p>\n

However, the impact team sees a lot of the same faces and names when they make arrests.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s discouraging, but we don\u2019t want to see it. We\u2019re gonna continue providing service to the community,\u201d said Anderberg.<\/p>\n

Callahan is one of these repeat offenders, with a criminal history going back to 2007. Most are drug misdemeanors and traffic violations, but he picked up his first felony in 2021 for a burglary.<\/p>\n

He pled down to misdemeanor assault and battery.<\/p>\n

Now he\u2019s being held on no bail for charges of assault and possession of drugs with two priors. He\u2019s also booked on charges in the vandalism case.<\/p>\n

Anderberg says downtown businesses have real concerns, but the impact team is making a difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe safety of their customers and their clients as well as their employees. They do express frustrations with these vandalisms. Our message is that we are going to continue to provide the quickest service that we can and investigate these crimes,\u201d said Anderberg.<\/p>\n

Just a day after the attack, Moo Creamery fixed the window and was back to serving up burgers for hungry customers.<\/p>\n
