The Gauchos managed a late comeback with a five-run sixth inning, but Illinois State held on for the win.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nUCSB faced ISU in a game that saw a significant turnaround in the later innings. The Redbirds took an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning with a single and a bases-loaded walk. By the end of the third inning, the Redbirds extended their lead to 6-0, highlighted by a two-run homer and an RBI single from Boyer.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe pivotal moment for UCSB came in the sixth inning. <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/jaelyn-toledo\/7670\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7670\" target=\"_blank\">Jaelyn Toledo<\/a> initiated the rally with a double, followed by a series of two-out hits and walks that led to five runs. <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/emily-carr\/7652\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7652\" target=\"_blank\">Emily Carr<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/ainsley-waddell\/7664\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7664\" target=\"_blank\">Ainsley Waddell<\/a> contributed with pivotal base hits, while a key single from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/jazzy-santos\/7660\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7660\" target=\"_blank\">Jazzy Santos<\/a> brought in two runs, narrowing the deficit to one. Despite the offensive surge, UCSB&#8217;s effort fell short in the seventh inning as the Redbirds maintained their lead. The Gauchos were unable to tie or take the lead in the seventh and fell 6-5.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nGAUCHOS 8, SPARTANS 1<br \/>\nUC Santa Barbara secured an 8-1 victory over San Jose State during the second game of on Friday, with UCSB totaling 13 hits, including two triples, to overpower the Spartans. <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/malaya-johnson\/7655\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7655\" target=\"_blank\">Malaya Johnson<\/a> delivered a complete game, allowing just one run and striking out three batters over seven innings.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSan Jose initially took the lead in the first inning with a triple and the runner was driven in by an RBI-single. UCSB responded in the third inning as <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/jazzy-santos\/7660\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7660\" target=\"_blank\">Jazzy Santos<\/a> tripled to drive in <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/dani-rauscher\/7669\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7669\" target=\"_blank\">Dani Rauscher<\/a>, and later scored on a fielder&#8217;s choice by <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/bella-fuentes\/7653\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7653\" target=\"_blank\">Bella Fuentes<\/a>, taking a 2-1 lead.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn the fourth inning, the Gauchos extended their lead with an unearned run, as <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/giselle-mejia\/7658\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7658\" target=\"_blank\">Giselle Mejia<\/a> scored on a single by Rauscher following a fielding error by SJSU. UCSB&#8217;s offense surged again in the sixth inning, with <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/ainsley-waddell\/7664\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7664\" target=\"_blank\">Ainsley Waddell&#8217;s<\/a> single driving in two runs, aided by a throwing error by the right fielder, pushing the score to 5-1.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe seventh inning saw UCSB solidify its win with a three-run burst. Santos delivered another crucial hit with a triple to right center, bringing in two runs after a single by <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/tehya-banks\/7651\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7651\" target=\"_blank\">Tehya Banks<\/a> had already driven in <a href=\"https:\/\/ucsbgauchos.com\/sports\/softball\/roster\/cat-benitez\/7665\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"7665\" target=\"_blank\">Cat Benitez<\/a>. UCSB&#8217;s defense held firm, not allowing a run after the first inning.
