In her studio at The Alameda Artworks in San Jose\u2019s Rose Garden neighborhood, artist Ayelet Gal-On does not just paint; she builds.<\/p>\n
Layering oil, acrylic and plaster on canvas, her art is a process of accumulation, textures applied to capture the brush of wind and the shift of light.<\/p>\n
Gal-On\u2019s signature subjects for \u201cTaken by the Wind, Swept by the Light,\u201d her upcoming solo exhibition at Gallery 9 in Los Altos, are white dresses that appear to hang on a line, defying the stillness of the canvas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love the process of playing with color,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s about finding a way to translate the sensation of the wind and the warmth of light into a visual experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe layers are both literal and metaphorical,\u201d Gal-On adds. \u201cJust as we are made up of our past experiences and hidden depths, the paintings hold their own history in the layers of material.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTaken by the Wind, Swept by the Light\u201d runs March 3-29 at Gallery 9, 143 Main St. in Los Altos. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 6, 5-8 p.m. For more information, visit gallery9losaltos.art<\/a><\/p>\n One-act \u2018Goes Wrong\u2019<\/p>\n Playful People Productions is staging a one-act version of the hit comedy \u201cThe Play That Goes Wrong\u201d March 6-22 at the Trace Elementary Theatre, 651 Dana Ave.<\/p>\n The play follows the antics of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, whose members are trying to stage a production of a 1920s murder mystery while props go missing, actors forget lines and the cast starts to crack under the pressure.<\/p>\n The original play, written by\u00a0Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company, \u00a0won Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards.<\/p>\n
