San Diego police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing downtown on Saturday night, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The stabbing was reported shortly after 9:20 p.m. in front of the Hotel Churchill near the intersection of C Street and Eighth Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found the victim, described as a man in his 40s, on the sidewalk suffering from apparent stab wounds. Officers and medics rendered aid, but the man died before he could be taken to a hospital, police said.<\/p>\n
Witnesses directed officers to the suspect, who had retreated into a nearby apartment and was trying to start a fire inside the unit, said homicide Lt. Lou Maggi.<\/p>\n
Officers forced their way into the room and used a police dog to subdue the man, identified as 34-year-old Grant Parker, who was taken into custody. Parker was taken to a hospital before being transported to the central jail, where he is being held without bail on suspicion of murder, according to online jail records.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the relationship between Parker and the victim is not known.<\/p>\n
