<\/p>\n BEAUMONT, Texas \u2014\u00a0The Oakland Golden Grizzlies\u00a0(1-2, 0-0 HL) secured their first victory of the season with a 3-2 extra-innings win against Lamar (2-1, 0-0 SLC) at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies’ pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts while allowing just two runs. The decisive run came in the 10th inning when redshirt-senior Jack Lux<\/a> contributed a key double, allowing the team to edge out the Cardinals, which had tied the game with two runs in the seventh.<\/p>\n Redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day<\/a> contributed significantly with a solo home run to drive in the first run. Senior Tanner Ware<\/a> was effective on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings, only allowing five hits, and striking out five as fifth-year Kyle Revere<\/a> showcased his defensive skills on the left side of the field at shortstop\u00a0with five assists while also posting two hits in five at-bats. Lux made his impact as a pinch hitter, delivering a double and recording an RBI in his sole plate appearance.<\/p>\n The game commenced with a strong showing from Day, who delivered a home run in the second inning, putting the Golden Grizzlies on the board first.<\/p>\n In the fourth inning, Oakland capitalized on Lamar’s defensive mishap. Grad senior\u00a0Carter Hain<\/a> scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by redshirt-junior Sam Griffith<\/a>, giving the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n Lamar responded in the seventh frame, tying the game with a pair of RBI doubles by Beau Durbin and Brayden Evans.<\/p>\n The decisive moment came in the tenth inning when Lux hit an RBI double into center field, scoring redshirt-sophomore\u00a0Tony Konopiots<\/a> from first base, providing Oakland with the one-run lead. Grad senior\u00a0Camden Cooper<\/a> sealed the victory by retiring Lamar in the bottom of the tenth, securing the Golden Grizzlies’ win with a final score of 3-2.<\/p>\n The left-handed Ware demonstrated notable endurance and control, pitching 4 scoreless innings and retiring five at the plate. Freshman Ben Green<\/a> entered in relief for the first time in his collegiate career, pitching 2\/3 of an inning, keeping his ERA\u00a0at zero despite allowing two hits. Junior Owen Thomson<\/a> contributed two innings of work on the bump, recording two strikeouts but allowed the two earned runs in the seventh. Redshirt-junior George Hansen<\/a>, sophomore Andrew Landis<\/a>,\u00a0Cooper, and redshirt-junior Ryan Donley<\/a> combined for the remaining innings, with Hansen securing a strikeout and Landis maintaining a hitless appearance over 1.1 innings.<\/p>\n Head coach Brian Nelson<\/a> and the Golden Grizzlies will head to Evansville, Indiana for a four-game series with Southern Indiana on Friday, Feb. 20.
