BERKELEY \u2014 A body found in Lake Anza Saturday was that of missing UC Berkeley graduate student Saketh Sreenivasaiah, officials have confirmed.<\/p>\n
The death of the 22-year-old man was confirmed by the Contra Costa County Coroner\u2019s Office and the San Francisco office of the Consulate General of India.<\/p>\n
In a social media posting, the consulate office said, \u201cWe extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Consulate stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to the family, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of mortal remains to India at the earliest. Our consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sreenivasaiah had been reported missing last Tuesday and was considered at risk because he was reportedly upset about a relationship, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Authorities, including Berkeley and East Bay Regional Park District\u00a0 police had focused on Lake Anza inside Tilden Regional Park after some of his personal items were found in the area.<\/p>\n
Divers with the Alameda County Sheriff\u2019s Office located the body just after 2 p.m. Saturday. It was taken to the Contra Costa County coroner\u2019s office for an autopsy and a manner of death determination.<\/p>\n
Sreenivasaiah had been pursuing a Master\u2019s Degree in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at UC Berkeley.<\/p>\n
