For the most part, the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> have had a pretty quiet offseason.<\/p>\n

Despite winning the National League Central division in 2025 with a 97-65 record, many expect the Brewers to take a step-back in 2026.<\/p>\n

That’s in large part due to the additions made by the Chicago Cubs<\/a>, but also taking into account Milwaukee’s trade of their ace, Freddy Peralta.<\/p>\n

However, the Brewers added a solid utility player last week, signing Luis Rengifo on a one-year $3.5 million deal, according to<\/a> MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The contract is fully guaranteed, with an opportunity to earn another $1.5 million in incentives.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the deal includes a $10 million mutual option for the 2027 season.<\/p>\n

Rengifo is a solid pickup for Milwaukee, having proven himself as an everyday player in seven seasons with the Los Angeles Angels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With the Angels, Rengifo holds a 162 game average of 15 home runs, 55 RBIs, 137 hits, 21 doubles and a .250 batting average.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to<\/a> Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Brewers intend to use Rengifo primarily at third base.<\/p>\n

Thus far in his MLB career, Rengifo has played all around the diamond, excluding only catcher and first base.<\/p>\n

That said, Rengifo is most familiar with second base, having logged 409 appearances there in contrast to 199 appearances at third base.<\/p>\n

However, despite his versatility, Rengifo has posted -21 OAA (Outs Above Average) over the last three seasons, a number that will certainly need to improve for him to stay in the lineup.<\/p>\n

Either way, Rengifo will have plenty of opportunities to contribute with his bat, either off the bench or in the starting lineup.<\/p>\n
