FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — Strong winds, heavy rain, and dumping snow swept across the Central Valley as a series of storms hit on Monday.<\/p>\n
A lamp post was knocked over and debris was scattered on the ground at an apartment complex in Kerman.<\/p>\n
Santiago Perez lives at the complex and says he saw pieces of a metal roof fly through the air within seconds.<\/p>\n
“Did it pass through here quickly?” we asked. “Yes, really quickly, the wind,” says Perez.<\/p>\n
Brief heavy downpours were seen valley-wide.<\/p>\n
PG&E crews were out with heavy machinery on Villa near Shaw to restore power to hundreds of customers who were left in the dark due to a falling power pole.<\/p>\n
The energy company’s main concern over the next several days is ground saturation.<\/p>\n
“There’s concern that it doesn’t take as much wind to knock vegetation into powerlines and cause outages,” says Jeff Smith, PG&E Spokesperson.<\/p>\n
PG&E says it has mobilized crews and activated its switch center to monitor outages and restore power more quickly.<\/p>\n
“It’s been minimal impact so far; we’ve had certain situations where we’ve had it several thousand customers out for a shorter amount of time where able to reroute those customers to other circuits,” says Smith.<\/p>\n
A car slammed into the center divider on Highway 168 in East Central Fresno.<\/p>\n
On Highway 99, a car spun out, leaving the number two and three lanes blocked and backing up traffic. All day long, slick roads made travel hazardous.<\/p>\n
“We are seeing quite a few crashes here along the Valley floor, on the freeways,” says Officer Mike Salas, California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
Drivers are now being told to brace for treacherous conditions over the coming days.<\/p>\n
Check items such as windshield wipers, tire tread, tire pressure and headlights.<\/p>\n
