FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 A long-planned effort to improve public access and recreation along the San Joaquin River is getting a $2 million boost after funding was secured in the federal budget, according to Fresno City Council President Mike Karbassi and Valley Congressman Jim Costa.<\/p>\n
The investment is intended to support planning and development for potential projects along the river corridor, including River West Fresno, Camp Pashayan improvements, and additional riverfront amenities and public access enhancements.<\/p>\n
Karbassi said continued investment in the river corridor is important because the projects are expected to strengthen outdoor recreation opportunities, improve environmental stewardship, and expand community access to the river.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe San Joaquin River is one of our region\u2019s greatest natural assets,\u201d Karbassi said. \u201cThanks to Congressman Costa\u2019s leadership, we can continue building a riverfront that serves families, protects wildlife, and creates new opportunities for residents to enjoy the outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Costa, who championed the funding in Congress, said the investment is aimed at protecting the river, improving access, and preserving its benefits for the future.<\/p>\n
