West Orange County cities \u2013 especially Garden Grove and Westminster \u2013 have for decades been the host community for Vietnamese-Americans; it\u2019s the largest such gathering outside of Vietnam itself.<\/p>\n

Consequently, this area has been the home for a variety of traditional cultural experiences associated with the biggest holiday, Tet.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the lunar new year observed across Asia; this time it\u2019s The Year of the Horse.<\/p>\n

The climatic event will be the annual Tet Parade, to be held on Saturday in the Little Saigon area of Westminster along Bolsa Avenue.<\/p>\n

This year the parade will be hosted by the City of Westminster. The purpose of the event is to not only celebrate the new year, but also the Vietnamese-American community, which is drawn largely from those forced to flee their country when communists took over the Republic of Vietnam in 1975.<\/p>\n

The parade isn\u2019t the only such major event in the area. A Flower Street was held on Main Street in downtown Garden Grove last weekend, and Golden West College in Huntington Beach was the site recently of the Tet Festival.<\/p>\n

The parade\u2019s opening ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. with the procession scheduled to step off at 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

It begins at the intersection of Bolsa Avenue and Magnolia Street and then turns eastbound on Bolsa. The parade will turn right on Bushard Street and head southbound, ending at Bishop Place.<\/p>\n

In addition to the estimated 15,000 people expected to attend, they will be joined by those viewing across the world via streaming services or social media.<\/p>\n
