Amire Robinson followed with another three-point play exactly a minute later to cut the San Jose State lead to 56-46. A pair of free throws by Kaleb Lowery and two more layups 25 seconds apart by Robinson left the Pack trailing 58-52 with 13:28 to go. The Pack, though, would get no closer.

KEY SAN JOSE STATE RUN

The Spartans scored 20 of the game’s first 25 points just five minutes into the game. The 20-point barrage was fueled by six 3-pointers (in seven attempts), three by Adrian Myers, two by Sadraque NgaNga and one by Melvin Bell. San Jose State would actually make eight of its first 10 3-point shots to take a 26-10 lead with 12:30 to go in the first half.

The Spartans cooled off beyond the arc the rest of the first half, missing six of its last seven over the final 10:38 before halftime, though the Pack never got closer than 10.

KEY FACTOR

It was all about the threes. San Jose State outscored Nevada 30-9 on 3-pointers, going 15-of-29 compared to the Pack’s 3-of-20. The Spartans were 9-of-17 in the first half on threes and 6-of-12 in the second half. The Pack was 2-of-10 in the first half and even worse (1-of-10) in the second half.

The Wolf Pack’s .150 success rate on threes is its worst this season (its three threes are also its fewest). The last time the Pack struggled even more beyond the arc was Feb. 28, 2025 in a 68-55 loss at UNLV when it was 3-of-21. San Jose State’s .517 success rate is the best against the Wolf Pack by a team taking at least 20 threes since Colorado State was 11-of-21 (.524) in a 79-71 Pack loss on Feb. 18, 2025.

KEY PACK PLAYER

Corey Camper was the only Pack player with any consistency Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 Camper scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting (2-of-6 threes) with four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Camper has now scored 14 or more points in 10 of his last 11 games after doing it in just five of his first 11 games. He also has 14 steals over the last six games

KEY SPARTAN PLAYER

Colby Garland played the entire 40 minutes, scoring 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting, draining 4-of-5 threes. The 6-1 point guard also had a game-high nine assists and three steals. He had six assists in the first 10 minutes of the game without taking a single shot. His first points didn’t come until his jumper gave the Spartans a 30-16 lead with 8:31 left in the first half. He missed his first 3-pointer and made his final four (three in the second half). Garland had 13 points in the first half on 5-of-9 shooting and added 16 on 5-of-8 shooting after halftime.

Garland, in his first season at San Jose State after playing at Drake (2023-24) and Longwood (last season), has now scored 20 or more points in his last five games. He also had a similar five-game stretch in December.

KEY HISTORICAL NOTE

San Jose State (7-19, 2-13) broke an eight-game losing streak (14 losses in their last 15 games) Tuesday. The last time an opposing team broke a losing streak of at least eight games against the Wolf Pack was also San Jose State. The Spartans took a 13-game losing streak into Lawlor Events Center on Feb. 18, 2014 and beat the Pack 66-64 for their first Mountain West win of the year (1-13).

KEY TURNAROUND

The Wolf Pack destroyed San Jose State 87-54 on Jan. 20 at Lawlor Events Center and a month later on Tuesday lost by 16 to the very same team on the road. The 49-point (a 33-point win followed by a 16-point loss) difference in the two games against the same team in the same season is Nevada’s biggest since it lost at New Mexico, 85-58, on Jan. 5, 2019 and rebounded to beat the Lobos, 91-62, in Reno on Feb. 9, 2019 for a 56-point difference (27-point loss followed by a 29-point win).

KEY PACK BRIGHT SPOT

The Wolf Pack bench outscored San Jose State’s bench, 15-11, just three night’s after the Pack bench was outscored 31-9 by San Diego State in a 71-57 loss. Amire Robinson led the Pack bench against San Jose State with seven points, with all seven coming in a span of just under two minutes early in the second half to help the Pack cut the deficit to 58-52. Joel Armotrading contributed six points (all in the first half), four rebounds and an assist in just 12 minutes. Tyler Rolison played just eight minutes, took just one shot and scored two points with an assist and a rebound. Myles Walker (13 minutes), Peyton White (10 minutes) and Jeriah Coleman (five minutes) didn’t score in 28 combined minutes.

KEY PACK CONCERN

Tayshawn Comer never found his rhythm on Tuesday and contributed seven points in just 19 minutes. It was also his first game without an assist this season (26 games). Comer was 3-of-9 from the floor and 1-of-5 on threes with two turnovers against San Jose State. He had just two points on 1-of-5 shooting in just seven second-half minutes. Comer’s 19 minutes on Tuesday are his fewest since he was used for just 17 minutes in a 66-65 victory at Fresno State on Jan. 3 when he was 1-of-8 from the floor for just two points. Comer has scored seven points or less in five of his last six games. He scored under 10 points in just three of his first 20 games before this current dry spell.

UP NEXT

The Wolf Pack (17-9, 9-6) will host Utah State on Saturday at Lawlor Events Center. The Pack lost at Utah State, 71-62, on Jan. 14. Utah State (22-3, 12-2) will host Boise State in Logan, Utah on Wednesday (Feb. 18) before coming to Reno.

A look at Nevada’s 87-71 men’s basketball loss at San Jose State on Tuesday: KEY WOLF PACK RUN…

[29
88,90,89
0":"post-183365","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-jose","8":"tag-san-jose","9":"tag-san-jose-headlines","10":"tag-san-jose-news
["GET
