FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 A group of mayors, former officials, and labor leaders unveiled a proposal they\u2019re calling Fix Our Roads, a 20-year plan they say would replace Measure C.<\/p>\n
Measure C is a half-cent sales tax approved by Fresno voters back in 1986 to improve roads.<\/p>\n
It funds road repairs and highway projects, but it’s about to expire.<\/p>\n
The Transportation Improvement Act was announced just a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n
It’s a separate citizen-led proposal backed by community groups and Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.<\/p>\n
It would extend the tax for 30 years and direct more funding toward transit projects.<\/p>\n
The announcement of Fix Our Roads was proposed by a mix of current and former city leaders.<\/p>\n
It is a 20-year extension of Measure C and would cost $3.9 billion<\/p>\n
82% of that would go towards fixing roadways<\/p>\n
