SEATTLE \u2013 The No. 23 Husky softball team (7-3, 0-0 Big Ten) jets back to California this weekend to play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.<\/p>\n
The tournament will feature 30 teams in Cathedral City, Calif. with the Huskies playing six games Thursday through Sunday.<\/p>\n
UW is one of four Big Ten teams represented at Mary Nutter, alongside No. 6 Nebraska, No. 11 UCLA and No. 14 Oregon.<\/p>\n
The Dawgs will have two more opportunities against Top-25 teams this weekend, facing No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 22 South Carolina in Cathedral City.<\/p>\n

MARY NUTTER COLLEGIATE CLASSIC SCHEDULE<\/p>\n
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19 WEEK TWO IN THE RANKINGS Washington was ranked in the Top-25 in three of the four preseason polls. The Huskies are slotted at No. 22 in both the D1 Softball and Softball America preseason polls and No. 25 in the USA Softball\/ESPN.com preseason poll.<\/p>\n After opening weekend, UW was ranked No. 24 in ESPN’s Top-25, No. 21 in D1Softball and No. 24 in Softball America’s poll.<\/p>\n LAST YEAR AT MARY NUTTER PRESEASON HYPE Alexis DeBoer<\/a> was also named to USA Softball’s Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, as well as a D1 Softball and Softball America Preseason Second Team All-American. She was named in the Top-40 overall player rankings and Top-5 by position by both organizations.<\/p>\n Jadyn Glab<\/a> was ranked as D1 Softball’s 94th overall player in its Top-100, as well as a Top-10 catcher by both D1 and Softball America.<\/p>\n The freshmen trio of Marley Teasley<\/a>, Mila Reddy<\/a> and Melody Acevedo<\/a> were all named to Softball America’s Big Ten Preseason Freshman Watch List. Acevedo was also one of 100 freshmen named to D1 Softball’s Preseason Freshman Watch List.<\/p>\n DEBUT MOMENTS Ally Hetzel<\/a> recorded her first career home run, a three-run homer in UW’s 17-0 win over UTSA, as well as three RBI last weekend.<\/p>\n Teasley played and started in all five games, batting .333 with four hits on the weekend.<\/p>\n Burdick saw action in four games and got one start, registering two hits and four RBI on the weekend. Reddy scored a run and saw action in three games.<\/p>\n Ryan Maddox<\/a>, Amira Rodriguez<\/a> and Allie Thomsen<\/a> all saw action in the circle during opening weekend.<\/p>\n Maddox pitched an inning against UTSA and 2.1 innings in Washington’s loss to No. 1 Texas (Feb. 7).<\/p>\n Rodriguez, Maddox and Thomsen each pitched in the Huskies’ second matchup with Texas.<\/p>\n WALK OFF WINNERS This was Washington’s first Top-10 win since defeating No. 8 Oregon 4-3 on March 16, 2025.<\/p>\n OPENING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS Alexis DeBoer<\/a> hit a .462 average in the opening five games of the season, while also recording a 1.231 slugging percentage and .611 on-base percentage. She scored three home runs and 4 RBI while notching a perfect fielding percentage at first base.<\/p>\n Ava Carroll<\/a> had a strong opening weekend for Washington as well, batting .438 with five runs and seven hits in a team-high 16 at-bats.<\/p>\n Giselle Alvarez<\/a> hit .267 opening weekend, registering five runs, four hits and five RBI while playing primarily at third base for the Huskies.<\/p>\n Gabi Toney<\/a> hit two dingers in the opening game of the season against No. 9 Nebraska, her second and third career home runs. \nAfter going 2-3 opening weekend, including a ranked win over then-No. 9 Nebraska, the Huskies added five more games to the win column last weekend. UW swept a three-game series at Fresno State and defeated San Jose State (6-1) and Santa Clara (13-0).<\/p>\n

\nEight Huskies made their debuts during opening weekend at UTSA \u2013 sophomore transfer Ryan Maddox<\/a> and freshmen Kaycie Burdick<\/a>, Mila Reddy<\/a>, Marley Teasley<\/a>, Amira Rodriguez<\/a>, Allie Thomsen<\/a>, Ally Hetzel<\/a> and Zuri Patterson<\/a>.<\/p>\n
\nDuring opening weekend in San Antonio, the Huskies earned their first Top-10 win of the season, thanks to a walk-off single from Jadyn Glab<\/a> to win it 3-2 over No. 9 Nebraska.<\/p>\n
\nWashington went 2-3 at the UTSA Invitational, picking up a 17-0 win over UTSA and a walk-off 3-2 win over No. 9 Nebraska. The Huskies lost their opening game to the Huskers 5-8 and dropped both to top-ranked Texas by scores of 6-11 and 0-5.<\/p>\n
\nDating back to 2014, the Huskies are 52-11 during opening weekend. In 2025, Washington went 2-3 at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz. In 2024, UW went 3-1 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone coming against the Oklahoma Sooners in extra innings. In 2023, UW also went 3-1 with their lone loss coming against the Sooners, 4-5.

\nPrior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend (2022, 2021, & 2020).

\nSCHEDULE STRENGTH
\nWashington has a tough schedule ahead with eight teams in ESPN’s preseason poll. In opening weekend alone, the Huskies faced two Top-10 teams in Texas (No. 1) and Nebraska (No. 9).
\nThe Dawgs face two more Top-25 opponents this weekend at Mary Nutter, playing No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 22 South Carolina

\nROAD TRIPPIN’
\nThe Huskies start off 2026 with four straight weekends on the road. Washington opened the season at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio (Feb. 6-8). UW then has a three-game series at Fresno State with single games against San Jose State and Santa Clara. In the third week, the Dawgs will compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City against South Carolina, Saint Mary’s, Auburn, BYU, Oklahoma and LMU (Feb. 19-22).<\/p>\n
\nAfter four straight weekends on the road to start the season, the Huskies will finally welcome fans to Husky Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 3 with a midweek matchup against Seattle U. Washington’s second Big Ten push begins with a home series vs. Northwestern on Friday, March 6.<\/p>\n

\nSince 2018, the Huskies have posted a 109-27 record at Husky Softball Stadium, including a 17-3 record in 2023 and 11-4 in 2024.<\/p>\n
\nThe 2026 season marks the second for Washington as a member of the Big Ten Conference. On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon.

\nThe Dawgs concluded their inaugural season in the B1G with a 12-9 record and a 7th place finish. Washington lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in 2025 to Indiana, 0-2.<\/p>\n
\nSouth Carolina is 7-2 on the season, with their two losses coming at the hands of No. 19 Virginia Tech in two of the first three games of the season.<\/p>\n
\nWashington is 6-4 all-time against the Gamecocks, playing all 10 matchups at neutral sites. The two teams last met in 2020, a 5-4 Husky win. UW has won the last three games.

\nSCOUTING THE GAELS
\nSaint Mary’s is 5-3 on the season, most recently sweeping CSUN in a three-game series at home.

\nALL-TIME VS. SAINT MARY’S
\nThe Huskies are 8-0 against Saint Mary’s and most recently defeated the Gaels 3-2 in 2020. Aside from the two runs in that 2020 matchup, Washington has given up just one run in the other seven against Saint Mary’s.<\/p>\n
\nAuburn is 9-2 on the season and has won six straight games. The Tigers won all five of their games last week as they hosted the War Eagle Classic, besting, Illinois, Bradley twice, Campbell and Binghamton.

\nALL-TIME VS. AUBURN
\nThe two teams haven’t faced off since 2019, and the Huskies are 5-0 all-time in the series. The most recent matchup was an 8-6 Husky win on March 1, 2019.<\/p>\n
\nBYU is 1-8 on the season with its lone win being an 8-5 victory over Notre Dame.<\/p>\n
\nThe Huskies are 10-4 all-time against the Cougars but lost the most recent matchup last season a 3-1 BYU win in the opening game of the Mary Nutter Classic.<\/p>\n
\nThe Sooners are 8-1 on the season with their lone loss coming at the hands of No. 17\/18 Arizona in the opening game of the Candrea Classic. Oklahoma lost 6-11 in that first game and then went on to win the series, including a 21-3 victory in game two.<\/p>\n
\nThe Dawgs are 15-16 all-time against Oklahoma with the Sooners taking the last four matchups. The last time these two teams played was in 2024 during opening weekend at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, with the No. 1 Sooner defeating the Huskies 4-3 in eight innings.<\/p>\n
\nThe Lions are 10-1 in 2026, with their lone loss being a 3-4 margin to Utah. LMU has won eight straight, most recently shutting out Hawaii 6-0.<\/p>\n
\nThe Huskies are 5-0 all-time against LMU and haven’t played the Lions since 2023 when Washington won 5-2.<\/p>\n
