voter-approved sales tax Measure A<\/a>, which is expected to generate $330 million annually starting in April, the county is still projecting a $470 million deficit for the upcoming fiscal year.<\/p>\n\u201cThe hospital system and every General Fund department is being asked to make difficult reductions,\u201d Williams said in a statement. \u201cThe fact remains that the largest share of our General Fund resources goes to public safety functions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rosen said his office would be among those hit hard. Without the $19 million, he said prosecutors could no longer pursue misdemeanor cases \u2014 including drunk driving, domestic violence and sexual assault cases in which victims are uncooperative. Those victim cases make up more than 70% of the office\u2019s prosecutions, Rosen said, meaning thousands could go unprosecuted.<\/p>\n
Rosen also said that prevention programs targeting youth, including anti-truancy efforts, gang intervention and drug treatment, would end up on the chopping block.<\/p>\n
