SANTA CLARA, Calif. \u2013 Dylan Jackson<\/a> recorded two RBIs and Jake McCoy<\/a> went 2-for-4 with a walk to lead the San Jos\u00e9 State baseball team (2-2, 0-0 MW) in a 8-6 loss to Santa Clara (3-2, 0-0 WCC) Wednesday afternoon from Stephen Schott Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Spartans totaled nine hits and drew seven walks, battling through cold and rainy conditions throughout the game. Santa Clara finished 6-for-10 with runners in scoring position to secure the win.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 State struck first in the opening inning. Alex Fernandes<\/a> doubled to right to lead off the game and later scored as part of a two-run frame. Jackson delivered a key two-RBI single to shallow right, giving the Spartans an early 2-0 advantage. The game would be delayed 22 minutes due to heavy rain midway through the first inning.<\/p>\n

After Santa Clara answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, the Spartans responded with three runs in the second inning to reclaim the lead. Vincent Gamberdella<\/a> drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk, and Brent Cota<\/a> followed with an RBI walk as SJSU took a 5-4 edge. The Broncos pulled away in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs in the inning and would not relinquish the lead.<\/p>\n

Cota finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks, while Fernandes scored twice and added a double. JC Osorio-Agard<\/a> tallied two hits and drove in a run.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the mound, Spencer Kratt<\/a> received his first start of the season. Peter Herrick<\/a> provided three innings of relief, allowing one run while striking out two.. Sam Boyle<\/a> and Kyler Bacosa<\/a> combined for two additional innings. Luca Staiano<\/a> (0-1) was charged with the loss. Caden Duke<\/a> pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 State left 11 runners on base and went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.<\/p>\n

The Spartans\u2019 pitchers combined for six strikeouts in the game

\nThis marked Jackson\u2019s first multi-RBI game of his career<\/p>\n
