(KRON<\/a>) \u2014 Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee\u2019s vehicle was stolen Monday after someone broke into her office, according to the Oakland Police Officers Association (OPOA). The police union confirmed that someone tampered with the door of Lee\u2019s office and stole the keys to her city-issued vehicle. <\/p>\n

The suspect drove away in Lee\u2019s vehicle, the OPOA said. A day later, on Tuesday, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Vallejo.<\/p>\n

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) confirmed that a city-owned vehicle was stolen from Oakland City Hall on Monday and recovered \u201chours later.\u201d <\/p>\n

The mayor\u2019s office released a statement Wednesday afternoon regarding the incident. <\/p>\n

As with criminal cases such as this, the Oakland Police Department is actively investigating, and we cannot comment further at this time.\u00a0No one in Oakland should have to worry about their car being stolen, whether\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0a resident, a city worker, or the\u00a0Mayor. Public safety is a priority across our entire city.<\/p>\n

Neither OPD nor the OPOA specified the location of where in Vallejo it was recovered. The time of the theft was not mentioned by either agency. <\/p>\n

As of Wednesday morning, the suspect in connection with Lee\u2019s stolen vehicle remains at large. <\/p>\n

KRON4 reached out to the mayor\u2019s office for more information. We did not hear back in time for publication.<\/p>\n

Three years ago, then-Mayor Sheng Thao\u2019s car was broken into<\/a> while attending a film premiere. <\/p>\n
