(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 California\u2019s Attorney General\u2019s Office is challenging the superior court\u2019s grant of mental health diversion to former Kern County supervisor <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/search?find=Zack%20Scrivner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zack Scrivner.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CA AG&#8217;s Office said they filed a petition for a writ of mandate in the Fifth District Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling happened back in December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/zack-scrivner-granted-mental-health-diversion-amid-felony-abuse-and-weapon-charges-kern-county-superior-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zack Scrivner granted mental health diversion amid felony abuse and weapon charges<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The defense noted that if Scrivner complies with the treatment and the court is satisfied with periodic evaluations, the charges could eventually be dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2024, Scrivner was accused of sexually assaulting one of his four children at his Tehachapi home. Detectives obtained a search warrant and seized 30 firearms from Scrivner&#8217;s residence, including an AK-47 style rifle and an AR-15 rifle.<\/p>\n<p>Scrivner stepped down from office in August 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Assemblymember Dr. Jasmeet Bains (D-Delano) released a statement saying:<\/p>\n<p>What took so long? The DOJ had enough evidence to describe the sexual assault of a child by Zack Scrivner in court documents, but then they didn\u2019t charge him with a sex crime. This injustice must be reversed, and I\u2019m glad the DOJ finally agrees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
