{"id":184774,"date":"2026-02-19T16:27:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T16:27:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/184774\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T16:27:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T16:27:59","slug":"jeff-skinner-sharks-mutually-agree-to-terminate-nhl-contract-nbc-sports-bay-area-california-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/184774\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeff Skinner, Sharks mutually agree to terminate NHL contract \u2013 NBC Sports Bay Area &#038; California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sharks officially are parting ways with one of their veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Sharks general manager Mike Grier announced Tuesday that the team mutually has agreed with forward Jeff Skinner to terminate his NHL contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to thank Jeff for his contributions to the organization, and wish him all the best,\u201d Grier said.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, San Jose placed <a href=\"https:\/\/sanjosehockeynow.com\/san-jose-sharks-jeff-skinner-waivers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skinner on unconditional waivers<\/a>, leading to the eventual contract termination.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time NHL All-Star is set to become an unrestricted free agent, which gives him the opportunity to sign with any team.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks signed Skinner to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nhl\/san-jose-sharks\/jeff-skinner-free-agency-veteran\/1861611\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">one-year, $3 million contract in July<\/a>, but ultimately, things did not work out for the 16-year NHL veteran in San Jose.<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old Skinner played in 32 games this season with the Sharks, tallying six total goals and 13 points with a career-low ice time average of 12:21 per game.<\/p>\n<p>San Jose will look to push for a playoff spot for the remaining 27 games of the 2025-26 NHL season, with the younger forwards such as Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith leading the charge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/4l4mpADVRh5IPCdD2uRw1i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Download and follow the San Jose Hockey Now podcast<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Sharks officially are parting ways with one of their veterans.
