FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 The Fresno Veterans Memorial Museum showcases many different relics from many different wars the country has been a part of.<\/p>\n
From relics from the Vietnam War, to others from Pearl Harbor, CEO Director Mike Harris says the museum looks to honor all veterans, while also paying respects to a special military organization.<\/p>\n
“The museum is the national headquarters home for the nation’s Legion of Valor,\u201d Harris said. \u201cThe Legion of Valor, or fellows that I likened to be like a fraternal organization, they’re the ones that have won the Congressional Medal of Honor. Or I would say awarded, it’s not a contest. That’s given by the President of the United States. The highest of the highest.”<\/p>\n
Members of the legion have also been awarded secondary medals like the distinguished Service Cross and Navy Cross.<\/p>\n
Harris says for Fresno, it’s an honor to be the home of a national organization that’s so important to the military.<\/p>\n
And it’s not just words of honor that were felt here at the museum.<\/p>\n
Harris gave us a tour of everything that the museum has to offer…even showing us the displays that give those honorable mentions to other members of the military that played a big impact in different wars.<\/p>\n
Some people shown on display have been inspiration for famous movies like Top Gun.<\/p>\n
The City of Fresno itself isn’t short of recognition either.<\/p>\n
Displays of war ships named after the city also shine a light on the importance of the Central Valley during times of conflict.<\/p>\n
The memorial museum also has links to different subjects, like the different military branches and history plans for those wanting to learn about important moments in the military’s history.<\/p>\n
