OAKLAND \u2014 A 34-year-old transient was shot Wednesday night in East Oakland while he was collecting cans, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The man was in stable condition at a hospital Thursday, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.<\/p>\n
The shooting happened about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of 73rd Avenue, not far from International Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The man told police he was collecting cans in the area to earn some money when he heard a loud noise and realized he had been shot. He hobbled to a nearby restaurant where police and medical personnel were called.<\/p>\n
According to initial police reports, there was a dispute involving other people in the area where shots were fired and investigators are trying to determine if the 34-year-old man was hit by a stray bullet fired during the dispute or was an intended target.<\/p>\n
Police have not yet determined what the dispute was about.<\/p>\n
No other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
