After an initial round of voting, nearly 5,000 people have helped narrow the choices for the Long Beach Baseball Club\u2019s official name \u2014 and the final round of voting has kicked off.<\/p>\n
The club launched its community-oriented team-naming contest in September<\/a>. After receiving more than 1,300 name suggestions, the team narrowed it down to six semifinalist options<\/a> for the community to vote on.<\/p>\n About 4,860 people cast their votes during that round, according to organizers, including 974 in-person votes at ballot boxes across Long Beach and 3,888 online votes from people in Long Beach \u2014 and in 34 other states outside of California, organizers said.<\/p>\n With those ballots cast, the three final team name options have been determined: Long Beach Coast, Long Beach Parrots or Long Beach Regulators. Each name, organizers said, \u201cis very Long Beach and captures a different aspect of the city\u2019s character.\u201d<\/p>\n Long Beach Coast is self-explanatory, with the city\u2019s 11-miles of coastline playing a key role in its identity.<\/p>\n \u201cOur beaches are as diverse as the city itself, from quiet baysides to buzzing boardwalks, each stretch offering its own rhythm and identity,\u201d organizer said. \u201cThe Coast unites them all.\u201d<\/p>\n Long Beach Parrots, meanwhile, is a reference to the city\u2019s population of wild parrots.<\/p>\n \u201cWhether you admire their spirit or are challenged by their audacity,\u201d organizers said, \u201cone thing is certain: the wild parrots of Long Beach are here to stay, embodying the city\u2019s own dynamic and resilient character,:<\/p>\n And the final option, Long Beach Regulators, is a callback to Long Beach native rapper Warren G\u2019s 1994 hit \u201cRegulate\u201d \u2014 and an homage to the city\u2019s role as a powerhouse and pioneer of West Coast rap.<\/p>\n \u201cWe honor the rhythm, the flow and the undeniable swagger that put Long Beach on the map,\u201d organizers said. \u201cRegulators, mount up!\u201d<\/p>\n The final round of community voting opened on Wednesday, Oct. 22, an will be available through Wednesday, Oct. 29.<\/p>\n \u201cWe promised we would be building this team with the people of Long Beach and this naming contest has shown how much they want to build it with us,\u201d said LBBC President Ena Patel. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to see how everyone responds and will continue to use the votes as feedback as we determine the final name internally.\u201d<\/p>\n Votes can be cast at the following in-person locations:<\/p>\n d\u2019Arnaud Athletics,\u00a03940 E.
