<\/p>\n WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. \u2013 Oakland’s home opener drew a solid crowd, with several fellow Golden Grizzly teams in attendance, but the women’s tennis team fell to Bradley University, 4-2.<\/p>\n Oakland (2-6) entered the match looking to even up the record against the Braves. Bradley quickly claimed the match on the No. 2 doubles court, but not before juniors Edie Hammond<\/a> and Emilia Jarvinen<\/a> secured their third-straight doubles win, 6-4, at No. 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n On the No. 3 court, senior Tara Montreuil<\/a> and sophomore Martyna Piechowicz<\/a> battled back from behind to force extra, wanting to clinch the doubles point once again. However, their rally came up just short, with Bradley taking the set, 7-6(4), and the doubles point.<\/p>\n In singles play, Hammond (6-2, 6-0) cruised to a straight-sets win, tying the score at 1-1. Sophomore Nisa Bulut<\/a> had to step out and retire her match, giving Bradley an easy point, but the Braves later suffered an injury, forcing them to retire the match as well. This awarded Jarvinen (6-1, 1-0, WR) the victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n Following Bulut’s retirement, Bradley picked up two straight singles wins to secure the team result. Piechowicz battled through a strong second set to force a tiebreaker, but the No. 1 court went to the Braves, 6-2, 3-6 (10-5). Oakland claimed its final point with Jarvinen’s win, while Montreuil and her opponent agreed to leave their match unfinished.<\/p>\n DOUBLES RESULTS
