Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine\u2019s Day,\u00a0whether you were on a hot date,\u00a0stayed\u00a0close to home\u00a0or\u00a0rolled out\u00a0solo. I had a wonderful\u00a0(but\u00a0somewhat\u00a0humbling)\u00a0Feb. 14 as my wife treated us to a\u00a0\u201cpaint and sip\u201d\u00a0night\u00a0at\u00a0The Hub Eats & Drinks<\/a>. As we\u00a0created portraits of one another, it was\u00a0abundantly\u00a0clear\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0more comfortable with words\u00a0than paints.\u00a0My\u00a0beautiful\u00a0wife ended up looking like a Muppet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have even more respect\u00a0now\u00a0for all those in the visual arts field.\u00a0In this week\u2019s newsletter,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0find an emphasis on galleries and museums, including newer and established spots.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0also got a\u00a0book release party\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0paired with cocktails, live\u00a0music\u00a0and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Feb. 14 was a night of\u00a0love and community as the Sacramento artist\u00a0Liz Awesome<\/a>\u00a0debuted\u00a0\u201cSolidarity as an Art Supply\u201d<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Flower Fist Art Market<\/a>\u00a0with live music,\u00a0poetry\u00a0and a pop-up market.\u00a0The\u00a0exhibition\u00a0will be up through the end of\u00a0February\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0highly recommended\u00a0for those\u00a0who want to tap into the camaraderie and\u00a0cutting edge\u00a0of local visual art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an email,\u00a0Awesome\u00a0said\u00a0viewers\u00a0can expect\u00a0\u201can exploration\u00a0of\u00a0mixing media, interconnectedness\u00a0and personal Sacramento history.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the work in the show was collaged from\u00a0artwork\u00a0created by artists with work on consignment at Flower Fist\u00a0and post-consumer trash,\u201d\u00a0Awesome\u00a0added.\u00a0\u201cThe group of artists were also interviewed for a series of videos on the\u00a0Flower Fist Instagram<\/a>\u00a0page.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The exhibit includes\u00a0\u201cweird handmade books,\u201d\u00a0a reinvented Seder plate, garbage tapestries\u00a0and\u00a0three collections of prints.\u00a0It wraps up Feb. 28 with a Maker\u2019s Summit that\u00a0focuses\u00a0on\u00a0Instagram\u2019s role\u00a0in Sacramento\u2019s art community\u00a0and how to best move forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Locals know\u00a0Ryan Seng\u00a0as a dual force in\u00a0Sacramento\u2019s cocktail\u00a0and visual arts\u00a0communities. He\u00a0managed\u00a0the\u00a0food and\u00a0beverage program at\u00a0Star Lounge<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0was head bartender at\u00a0the\u00a0Citizen Hotel<\/a>, where he\u00a0created the mural in\u00a0Grange\u00a0Restaurant & Bar\u2019s\u00a0dining room\u00a0and crafted\u00a0stellar\u00a0drinks\u00a0like a maple bacon Manhattan called The Tusk.\u00a0Seng\u2019s\u00a0since\u00a0branched into the literary world with the release of his second novel,\u00a0\u201cCastle Monticello.\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0an epic and\u00a0surreal\u00a0David Lynch-ish\u00a0tale\u00a0that unfolds over\u00a0nearly\u00a0400\u00a0pages\u00a0with vampires and primordial creatures\u00a0down by the waters of Lake Berryessa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Seng, who now lives in Austin, Texas.,\u00a0returns to Sacramento on Friday<\/a>\u00a0to wrap\u00a0up his\u00a0current\u00a0book tour\u00a0at Grange\u2019s Scandal Lounge.\u00a0Revel in the weirdness while sipping\u00a0on a\u00a0Charlotte\u2019s Dose\u00a0(green tea, pomegranate, lemon, ginger, gin) or\u00a0a\u00a0Hypoxia\u202f(whiskey, Madeira,\u202fmaraschino liqueur, angostura).<\/p>\n
