The Long Beach Baseball Club won\u2019t be known as that for much longer, and now, there is a concrete idea of what the team\u2019s name might be.<\/p>\n

In a media statement, the club, which will operate as an independent professional team, said it received 3,888 naming submissions from not just California, but 33 other states. An additional 974 ballots were cast in-person across Long Beach.<\/p>\n

\u201cLong Beach showed up in a big way, from neighborhood ballot boxes to votes pouring in from 34 states,\u201d said Long Beach Baseball Club President Ena Patel. \u201cIt\u2019s been wonderful to see how invested the Long Beach community is in this team and wanting us to be playing at Blair Field in 2026.\u00a0With these three finalists, we\u2019d like to give the community a preview of the story behind each of these names and how each name ties into Long Beach.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, what are the three final contenders<\/a>?<\/p>\n

One of the finalists is the Long Beach Coast. The club would be referred to as \u201cLBC\u201d \u2014 a widely-used nickname for the city already \u2014 and the media release issued by team officials called Long Beach \u201ca city defined by its edges.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c11 miles of coastline that connect neighborhoods, cultures and generations from the west side to the east,\u201d the media release reads. \u201cIt\u2019s a place where land and water, grit and glam, tradition and innovation all meet. The beaches are as diverse as the city itself, from quiet baysides to buzzing boardwalks, each stretch offering its own rhythm and identity. The Coast unites them all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Long Beach Parrots name pays homage to the wild parrots that call the city of Long Beach home, especially the Belmont Shore neighborhood<\/a>. A group of parrots is referred to as a \u201cpandemonium,\u201d and team officials say that name represents the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are a force of nature: loud, unapologetic and undeniably present,\u201d the team said. \u201cWhether you admire their spirit or are challenged by their audacity, one thing is certain: the wild parrots of Long Beach are here to stay, embodying the city\u2019s own dynamic and resilient character.\u201d<\/p>\n

Long Beach Regulators\"Warren<\/a><\/p>\n

The third finalist for the Long Beach Baseball Club\u2019s new name is the Long Beach Regulators. This name is derived from Long Beach rapper Warren G\u2019s song \u201cRegulate,\u201d which was one of the most popular songs of the 1990s West Coast hip-hop scene and, according to the team\u2019s media statement, helped cement Long Beach as a \u201cglobal music powerhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warren G, who is a partial owner of the team<\/a>, is a fan of the name.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegulators is a tribute to that legacy, echoing the spirit of Warren G\u2019s \u2018Regulate,\u2019 an anthem that defined a city and a sound,\u201d the media release says. \u201cWe honor the rhythm, the flow, and the undeniable swagger that put Long Beach on the map. Regulators, mount up!\u201d<\/p>\n

Final-round voting opened Wednesday at 9 a.m. and is set to close on Oct. 29 at 11:59 p.m.<\/p>\n

After the name is picked, the team will commission the design of a new logo and branding. The grand reveal is expected in January.<\/p>\n

Long Beach does have some baseball history;<\/a> the city used to have a baseball team that had a few different names, most recently the Long Beach Armada, which played from 2005-2009. They were known as the Breakers between 2001 and 2003, the Riptide in 1996 and the Barracudas the year prior.<\/p>\n

There was a team that played in Long Beach in 1910 called the Long Beach Clothiers but only played one season. Three years later, a team called the Long Beach Beachcombers took to the diamond, but they also only played for a sole season.<\/p>\n
