SAN JOSE \u2013 A man died after being detained by officers Wednesday morning in San Jose, police said.<\/p>\n
Around 8:05 a.m., a physical confrontation was reported in the 400 block of South Buena Vista Avenue, but as officers headed to the scene, they received a second report that a man was experiencing a drug overdose, San Jose police Sgt. Jorge Garibay said in news release.<\/p>\n
Officers arrived to find the man \u201ccompletely naked and acting erratic,\u201d Garibay said.<\/p>\n
Minutes after officers took the man into custody, he began experiencing a medical emergency, Garibay said, adding that officers summoned paramedics and started life-saving measures.<\/p>\n
The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Garibay said.<\/p>\n
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner\u2019s Office will release the man\u2019s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.<\/p>\n
Per protocol, the Santa Clara County District Attorney\u2019s Office and the SJPD Homicide Unit are conducting a joint investigation into the in-custody death, Garibay said. The case is being monitored administratively by the SJPD Internal Affairs Unit, the City Attorney\u2019s Office and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor.<\/p>\n
