He did not remain at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/l-city-county-leaders-teaming-215305088.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:L.A. city, county leaders teaming up to target sex trafficking along Western Avenue;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> L.A. city, county leaders teaming up to target sex trafficking along Western Avenue <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Nikki Rash,\u201d Hochman said in a statement. \u201cRunning a red light is extremely dangerous and leaving the scene of a crash is unconscionable. Even when injuries are not immediately apparent, drivers have a legal and moral obligation to remain at the scene and ensure others are safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Rash had initially declined medical treatment at the scene, but checked herself into the hospital a few hours later, complaining about a severe headache and neck pain. Her son said she had no recollection of the crash due to a critical head injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Following brain surgery, Rash remained in a coma and was put on life support at Long Beach Memorial. \u201cWe let her go peacefully,\u201d her son said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Acosta pleaded no contest to one felony count of hit-and-run resulting in death.
