After years of complaining to the City of San Jose about neighborhood issues, Foxdale community residents said they finally feel heard because action is being taken.<\/p>\n
City crews came out in force Saturday to give Foxdale residents a hand and an ear after locals raised concerns about crime being a big issue in the area.<\/p>\n
“This community here in Foxdale has had its challenges over the years,” San Jose police Chief Paul Joseph said. “But the one thing that is central is always a sense of pride and community members that want to make a difference.”<\/p>\n
As part of Saturday’s effort, the city helped residents paint murals, add solar lights to the local walking trail and picked up litter.<\/p>\n
Former San Francisco Giants player Hunter Pence and his Healthy Planet Project also spent the day lending a hand.<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s a couple things that we picked up off the side of the street that were pretty heavy,” Pence said. “But you can feel the sense of community. You can feel the pride, the joy, the mayor backing it up, the city backing it up. And the upliftment.”<\/p>\n
Even the San Jose Earthquakes lent a hand by helping convert a small grass area into a legitimate soccer field for neighborhood kids.<\/p>\n
