WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 President Donald Trump said he will raise the baseline U.S. tariff rate on imported goods<\/a> from 10% to 15% — “effective immediately” — following what he described as an unfavorable Supreme Court decision related to his trade policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He made the announcement on Saturday, which marked a day after the Supreme Court ruled that his emergency tariffs are illegal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday, after MANY months of contemplation, by the United States Supreme Court, please let this statement serve to represent that I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been ‘ripping’ the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level,” he wrote on Truth Social<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The president said the higher tariff will apply broadly to countries he argues have taken advantage of the U.S. in trade for decades.<\/p>\n

“During the next short number of months, the Trump Administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible Tariffs, which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again — GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!” Trump wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes amid ongoing legal and political debates over the administration\u2019s authority to impose sweeping tariffs without additional congressional approval. <\/p>\n
