A man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the death of a man who was carjacked outside a Wells Fargo bank and run over by his own van in 2021, the Sacramento County District Attorney\u2019s Office said in a news release.<\/a><\/p>\n Jimmy Washington was convicted of first-degree murder and carjacking<\/a> in November 2025 for the death of James Nguyen.<\/p>\n Washington\u2019s conviction also included enhancements for committing the murder during a carjacking and causing great bodily injury during the carjacking.<\/p>\n Around 1 p.m. on June 17, 2021, Nguyen was fixing a drive-up ATM at the Wells Fargo bank located near the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road in south Sacramento. Washington, who had been at the bank to cash a check, attempted to carjack Nguyen\u2019s work van, the District Attorney\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n Nguyen tried to stop the carjacking and dangled from the open driver\u2019s window as Washington sped through the parking lot in the van, driving recklessly and nearly hitting other pedestrians and vehicles, the District Attorney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n Nguyen fell from the window of the van and was run over as Washington drove away. Prosecutors said Washington either pushed Nguyen or drove in a manner that caused him to fall, according to previous Bee reporting.<\/a><\/p>\n The District Attorney\u2019s Office said Nguyen was hospitalized and remained in a vegetative state for nearly nine months before he succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n Washington was taken into custody four days after the carjacking, according to previous reporting from The Bee.
