Residents of La Mesa might not have to keep driving to Lemon Grove to eat at In-N-Out Burger.<\/p>\n
The city of La Mesa is considering a proposal that would allow its first In-N-Out restaurant at the corner of Center Drive and Grossmont Center Drive, a city spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are a great employer, they generate an incredible amount of tax revenue, and it\u2019s also a symbol of how great La Mesa is doing,\u201d La Mesa City Councilmember Laura Lothian said.<\/p>\n
While many expressed support for the new burger spot, residents are split on whether potential traffic implications would be worth the addition to their neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Lothian said there will be two side-by-side drive-thru lanes and windows, instead of one.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs part of our permitting process, project applicants must provide a technical analysis of the proposed development,\u201d said Grecia Aguilar, the city\u2019s communications manager. \u201cThis includes analysis of on-site project design and surrounding conditions, such as sidewalks, crosswalks, proximity to transit, and nearby developments that could impact traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mike Abbate, vice president of store development for In-N-Out Burger, confirmed the company had submitted an application for the proposed location.<\/p>\n
He said it is too early in the process to share an estimated timeline for the restaurant to open.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhenever we explore a new location, we put a lot of effort into the planning process, not only to give our customers the best experience possible, but also to be a good neighbor and positive presence in the community that we are joining,\u201d Abbate said in a statement. \u201cWe are hopeful about the opportunity to serve the La Mesa community and truly appreciate the enthusiasm we\u2019ve already received from potential customers there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Once the application review is completed, it will be scheduled for consideration by the La Mesa Design Review Board and Planning Commission.
