The official 50th anniversary of the Lomita Sheriff\u2019s Station opening took place in November, but the celebration will continue with a gala event on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.<\/p>\n

The Lomita Sheriff\u2019s Station, under the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department, serves three of the four cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula \u2014 Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates \u2014 as well as the city of Lomita and some adjacent unincorporated areas. Palos Verdes Estates has its own police force.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the cities have been very supportive of law enforcement and the relations we have built,\u201d said Lomita Sheriff\u2019s Station Capt. Kimberly Guerrero<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The newly formed Lomita Sheriff Station Foundation will host Saturday\u2019s event, which will feature fine dining and honor the station\u2019s five decades of community service.<\/p>\n

The foundation\u2019s creation was a community effort, including police foundations, business leaders and nonprofits, said Community Relations Deputy Derek Clotworthy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey saw the need,\u201d Clotworthy said, \u201cso they responded in kind and put together this foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the Lomita Sheriff\u2019s Station, 26123 Narbonne Ave., opened its doors, the Palos Verdes Peninsula was patrolled by law enforcement at a station in Lennox, now known as the South Los Angeles Sheriff\u2019s Station, Clotworthy said.<\/p>\n

The celebration in November was to honor those who have served at the station.<\/p>\n

During that celebration, an alumni wall was erected that recognized the more than 1,000 \u201cmen and women who served in some caring capacity at our station in the last 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was very special for us; it was special for the alumni,\u201d Clotworthy said. \u201cIt\u2019s something that we\u2019d love to share with the public so they know you know how much we care about the men and women that do this job.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Terranea Resort, 100 Terranea Way.<\/p>\n
