The\u00a0Idaho\u00a0Vandals went to\u00a0Sacramento,\u00a0California,\u00a0on Saturday, Feb. 21,\u00a0to take on the 9-18\u00a0Sacramento\u00a0State Hornets. After the Vandals played them earlier in the season at home and won by ten points,\u00a0the 15-13 Vandals had a lot of momentum going into the game.\u00a0This game was a lot closer than the\u00a0previous\u00a0matchup, although Idaho came out on top 86-80.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To start off the game, Idaho took a strong lead in the first five minutes of the game leading the Hornets 22-11.\u00a0Senior guard\u00a0Biko Johnson scored\u00a015 points in just the first seven minutes of the game. This boosted the\u00a0Vandals\u00a0momentum a lot and gave them the\u00a0spark\u00a0they needed to stay ahead for most of the first half.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sacramento State went on a\u00a0ten-point\u00a0scoring run after Idaho took\u00a0an\u00a011-point\u00a0lead,\u00a0and this\u00a0tightened\u00a0the gap in the game to 22-21. After that, the game stayed close and halftime ended with\u00a0the\u00a0Vandals only up by two points, 42-40.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The second half of the contest was a very tight\u00a0matchup,\u00a0and the Hornets took their first lead of the half early on, 48-47 after a three pointer from\u00a0senior guard\u00a0Prophet Johnson. This tension between both teams going back and\u00a0forth\u00a0continued for the rest of the game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a high scoring game, the score was 80-78 with just one minute left in the game.\u00a0Senior forward\u00a0Brody Rowbury knocked down a\u00a0three-pointer\u00a0with 29 seconds left in the game,\u00a0adding\u00a0to his\u00a014 points\u00a0and\u00a0six rebounds\u00a0cementing\u00a0the win for the Vandals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Vandals set some long-time records tonight in the rebounding category. With a total of 49 rebounds, this was the most that the Vandals basketball team has seen since 2016\u00a0against\u00a0a\u00a0Division\u00a0One opponent.\u00a0On top of that, they outrebounded the Hornets by 21.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johnson had yet another amazing night, scoring 25 points and going 6-11 from behind the three-point line. Johnson also had nine rebounds, which was just one away from a double-double.\u00a0Freshman\u00a0forwardJackson\u00a0Ramussen\u00a0added 18 points,\u00a0reaching\u00a0the\u00a0second\u00a0all-time\u00a0points scored in Idaho Vandals history, which marks a historic moment for the future of\u00a0Ramussen\u00a0and the team.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Vandals are over a 0.500-win percentage this season sitting at 15-13, and this is the best the Vandals have been quite some time.\u00a0The Vandals will come home to ICCU Arena for their final two home\u00a0games this season against Northern Arizona\u00a0Lumberjacks\u00a0and Northern Colorado\u00a0Bears.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
