William Lee (Bill) CRAWLEY, 83, died at home in Santa Clara, California, on February 3, 2026, from cardiac arrest following complications from neurodegenerative disease. Bill was born and raised in Illinois in 1942. After graduating from high school, he obtained a BSEE from the University of Illinois<\/a> with a Major in Management and Minor in Finance. Bill went to work for Hallicrafters in Chicago in 1965 as a Junior Electronics Engineer in the Active Electronic Warfare (AEW) Department. He soon had a Secret clearance and his work was so sensitive that his draft status was deferred for several years. Eventually he was inducted into the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam for 2 years, and then was in the Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1974.<\/p>\n

His career spanned decades developing and implementing new technologies for high tech companies improving business profitability, competitiveness and providing better customer service inside and outside the company. He held various positions as Senior Systems Analyst at Motorola in Schaumburg, Illinois (1972\u20141980), and after relocating to the Bay Area, as Senior Programmer Analyst at Intel Corporation, Santa Clara, California (1980\u20141982), Senior Systems Programmer at National Semiconductor, Santa Clara, California (1982\u20141983), followed by Operations and Technical Sup-port Manager (Hitachi Data Systems), Santa Clara, California (1983\u20141988) and Advanced Micro Devices, Sunnyvale, California (1988\u20141990) and at Intel.<\/p>\n

Bill never married and was predeceased by both his parents and his only sibling, an older sister who died shortly after birth. He enjoyed organizing and leading hikes for the Sierra Club, cross-country driving trips, river rafting, bicycle riding, downhill snow skiing at Squaw Valley, among other outdoor treks. Bill was a private person, never one for fanfare and always conveying a sunny disposition. He was naturally good natured, kind and enjoyed the company of friends and extended family, never saying a cross word to anyone.<\/p>\n

He will be missed by his many cousins across the miles and friends who were fortunate enough to know him. Bill will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.\u00a0<\/p>\n
