The Phoenix Hotel is famous for its celebrity guest list, hosting famous musicians over the years, including Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The retro-style hotel also hosts concerts on its outdoor patio around the pool, bringing crowds to hear up-and-coming DJs on weekends.<\/p>\n
Last year, the property was sold to new owners, who announced that the hotel would close at the end of 2025, much to the dismay of many San Franciscans. As the year came to an end, The Phoenix hosted several last celebrations<\/a>, including a New Year\u2019s Eve and New Year\u2019s Day parties.<\/p>\n Now, it looks like the hotel will actually continue to operate under Binoy Patel, a San Francisco hotelier. The news was first reported by Mission Local<\/a>, which noted that it appeared the owner of the property, Michael Saus, had found a new hotel operator for the Phoenix, and was changing his initial plans for the property. Patel has told the SF Chronicle<\/a> that he plans to keep the traditions and vibe of the hotel alive, so San Franciscans can still expect the hotel to be filled with music in the future.<\/p>\n The Phoenix Hotel was previously a motor lodge that opened in 1956, before it was purchased by longtime owner Chip Conley in 1987. Conley\u2019s vision for the hotel as a music hotspot stemmed from the large parking lot, which could fit massive tour buses for musicians. From there, numerous celebrities stayed at the hotel, including Debby Harry, JFK Jr., and even Kurt Cobain.<\/p>\n
