She was the founding librarian at Saratoga Federated Church and an accomplished watercolor artist with five decades of work. She was an active member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society and the Society of Western Artists and served as president of the Fine Arts League of Cupertino. She studied under watercolorists Jane Hofstetter and Marie Roberts.

The exhibit was curated by her son, James Revell, who wanted to pay tribute to his mother’s artistic legacy and her connection to the Saratoga community. Many of her paintings were drawn from field sketches and photos taken during her excursions. Revell’s paintings reflect her appreciation for nature, light and color and her ability to capture atmosphere and luminosity.

Revell’s artistic philosophy was “to capture the feeling of light in nature and the beauty of color I see around me. It’s always a delight when my paintings allow others to see these things, too. I have never desired to paint in any other medium than watercolor. I love the glow of the paper through the transparent layers of paint, and the flow of the pigments as they mix on their own.”

“My hope is that visitors can catch even a small glimpse of what Mom saw through her brush and what she found so special in watercolor,” said Revell. “These paintings represent just a portion of a much larger body of work she created with care and dedication across the decades. I’m grateful to share her art with the community she loved so much.”

Showtime at Foothill Club

As part of its Public Event Series, the Saratoga Foothill Club will be hosting the executive artistic director of a downtown San Jose theater company to set the stage for the art of connection.

The club is hosting Lisa Mallette, who works with City Lights Theater Company, on March 1 from 4-6 p.m. Attendees will be learn how to focus on connection and how the company creates an intimate setting in its110-seat theater.

Mallette has appeared in and directed over two dozen classical and contemporary works in regional and world premieres.
