However, the 49ers have made a stunning decision for their fans and the NFL world. Reports have surfaced<\/a> that left offensive tackle Trent Williams is set to be released.<\/p>\n

The move comes on the heels of the 49ers negotiating a new deal with Williams. The deal, however, aims to force Williams into a paycut.<\/p>\n

Understandably, Williams isn\u2019t open to taking a pay cut or losing an opportunity to be paid fair market value. Even at 39, Williams has been a stable presence on the 49ers\u2019 offensive line.<\/p>\n

A $39M cap hit is certainly understandable, so the 49ers will want to address the situation. It is unclear what the 49ers are offering, but Williams\u2019 camp isn\u2019t receiving it with open arms.<\/p>\n

The move isn\u2019t official, but multiple other reports are indicating it is an inevitable move at this point. Williams then would be free to sign with another team.<\/p>\n

Williams still likely has a couple of top-tier plays left in his tank. To see the 49ers deciding to part ways with him truly is a tough decision to make.<\/p>\n
