{"id":193137,"date":"2026-02-25T14:27:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T14:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/193137\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T14:27:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T14:27:13","slug":"air-force-edged-by-san-jose-state-86-80","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/193137\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force Edged By San Jose State, 86-80"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USAF ACADEMY, Colo. &#8211; Air Force men&#8217;s basketball (3-25, 0-17 MW) fell to San Jose State (8-20, 3-14 MW), 86-80, in Mountain West action Tuesday night at Clune Arena. \u00a0Freshmen <a href=\"https:\/\/goairforcefalcons.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/lucas-hobin\/27122\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"27122\" target=\"_blank\">Lucas Hobin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/goairforcefalcons.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/kam-sanders\/27116\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"27116\" target=\"_blank\">Kam Sanders<\/a> combing for 41 points to lead the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p>It was a tough loss for the Falcons, who were in it till the end. \u00a0Trailing by 11 with under five minutes to play, the Falcons went on a 9-2 run to cut the game to four with 55 seconds left in the game. \u00a0A steal on the ensuing possession had the Falcons with a chance to get closer, but a costly turnover allowed the Spartans to get the ball back. SJSU was able to convert a pair of free throws to seal the game.<\/p>\n<p>Free throws and three-point shooting were the deciding factor in the game. \u00a0San Jose State shot 89 percent from the line, making 17-of-19. \u00a0The Spartans made 13 three&#8217;s on the night. \u00a0Air Force shot 64 percent from the line, making 14-of-22. \u00a0The Falcons made eight three&#8217;s on the night, but just two in the second half.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Air Force got up by as many as nine early in the game, before San Jose State got hot from three to go into the half leading 42-37. \u00a0The Falcons opened with an 11-2 burst to start the game. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans got ahead by as many as nine in the first half, led by 18 points from Adrian Myers. \u00a0Myers hit four three&#8217;s in the opening half.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hobin scored 15 points in the first-half for the Falcons, knocking down five of the team&#8217;s six first-half threes.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, Air Force came back and took a one-point lead four minutes in. \u00a0But San Jose State re-took the lead and would build up to as high as a 12-point lead in the second half. \u00a0The Falcons rallied late, but ran out of time.<\/p>\n<p>Air Force scored its most points in a conference game, shooting 51 percent from the field.<\/p>\n<p>Hobin led the Falcons with 21 points, knocking down five threes. \u00a0Sanders scored a career-high 20 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. \u00a0Sanders broke the school freshmen record for most assists in a season, with 107.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/goairforcefalcons.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/ethan-greenberg\/27121\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"27121\" target=\"_blank\">Ethan Greenberg<\/a> was the third Falcon in double figures with 10 points and two three&#8217;s. \u00a0Sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/goairforcefalcons.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/eli-robinson\/22901\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22901\" target=\"_blank\">Eli Robinson<\/a> added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. \u00a0Junior <a href=\"https:\/\/goairforcefalcons.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/wesley-celichowski\/22895\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"22895\" target=\"_blank\">Wesley Celichowski<\/a> added seven points and two blocked shots. \u00a0Sophomore AJ Patterson had a career-high six assists.<\/p>\n<p>Myers led San Jose State with a career-high 34 points. \u00a0Myers was unconscious from three, going 8-for-9 from long range. \u00a0Guard Colby Garland added 23 points for the Spartans.<\/p>\n<p>Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 28 at Wyoming. \u00a0Tip time is 2 pm MT from the Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo. \u00a0The game will be streamed on the MW Network.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"USAF ACADEMY, Colo. &#8211; Air Force men&#8217;s basketball (3-25, 0-17 MW) fell to San Jose State (8-20, 3-14&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":193138,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[88,90,89],"class_list":{"0":"post-193137","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-jose","8":"tag-san-jose","9":"tag-san-jose-headlines","10":"tag-san-jose-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/193137","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=193137"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/193137\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/193138"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=193137"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=193137"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=193137"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
