TWO WEEKS OF RAIN AND SNOW SYSTEMS ARE WRAPPING UP AND BOOSTING OUR WATER SUPPLY. AND ALL OF THIS COMES AS THE RAINY SEASON REACHES ITS FINAL STRETCH. FOR MORE ON THIS, LET’S GO TO KELLY CURRAN RIGHT NOW. LIVE NEAR FOLSOM DAM. SO HOW MUCH OF OUR RESERVOIRS HAVE ACTUALLY FILLED UP? WELL, YOU KNOW, WE’RE AT ABOUT 59% OF CAPACITY HERE AT FOLSOM LAKE. BUT LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE NUMBERS FROM THIS MOST RECENT STORM. SO CHECKING IN ON SACRAMENTO, WE’VE HAD 12.55IN OF RAIN SINCE OCTOBER 1ST. THAT IS OUR WATER YEAR. OUR WATER SEASON. THAT’S ABOUT 99% OF NORMAL. IT’S PRETTY GOOD. BUT WE WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE A LITTLE BIT BETTER. AND DESPITE THE VERY DISMAL TURNOUT FOR RAINFALL YESTERDAY IN SACRAMENTO OR IN STOCKTON AND MODESTO GOT ALMOST NOTHING. YOU’RE ACTUALLY A LITTLE BIT BETTER SHAPE AT 127% AND 130% OF NORMAL, RESPECTIVELY. NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT FOLSOM LAKE RIGHT NOW. ELEVATION 100 AND 425.8FT. STORAGE. 576,778 ACRE FEET. THAT IS 59% OF CAPACITY, BUT 120 120% OF WHAT IS NORMAL. SO WE’RE IN GOOD SHAPE. WE CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE MORE RAIN AND MORE SNOW, BUT AS WE HEAD INTO THE REST OF THIS WORKWEEK, THE BACK HALF, WE’RE REALLY GOING TO BE FEELING THESE TEMPERATURES WARMING UP, NOT JUST IN THE VALLEY WHERE WE MIGHT SEE HIGHS IN THE 70S, BUT UP INTO THE FOOTHILLS. EVEN AROUND POLLOCK PINES AFTERNOON HIGHS ARE GOING TO BE CLIMBING INTO THE 60S. SO ALL OF THAT SNOW THAT SOME AREAS IN THE FOOTHILLS RECEIVED JUST LAST WEEK IS GOING TO START MELTING. THAT RUNOFF ENDS UP IN THE RIVERS, WHICH OF COURSE ENDS UP IN THE RESERVOIRS. SO WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF WE CONTINUE TO SEE THESE LEVELS RISING EVEN THOUGH THE RAINFALL HAS STOPPED IN FOLS

Where does Sacramento’s rain season stand after another round of wet weather?

The last round of wet weather didn’t amount to impressive totals in the Valley, but significant rain fell in the Foothills and Sierra

   Updated: 11:54 AM PST Feb 25, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

The last round of wet weather didn’t amount to impressive totals in the Valley, but significant rain fell in the Foothills and Sierra. While Yuba City picked up nearly 0.50 inches of rain, most of the Valley received less than 0.25 inches. Portion of the Foothills and Sierra picked up more than 0.50 inches, with parts of Plumas, Sierra, and Nevada counties seeing up to 5 inches of rain during the 36-hour period. Where does Sacramento’s rain season stand? That brings Sacramento’s season total to 12.55 inches since Oct. 1, 2025, which is 99% of what is considered normal for the date. Stockton has received 11.89 inches this season and Modesto has received 10.9 inches of rain, putting them at 127% and 130% of normal, respectively. Rain and melting snow are entering the river systems and reservoirs. Currently, Folsom Lake is at 59% of capacity, which is 120% of normal for the date. With mild temperatures in the forecast, melting snow will likely lead to more water in the area reservoirs in the coming days.
