The body of\u00a0a\u00a057-year-old man who was kidnapped from a Central Valley Sikh temple\u00a0earlier this month\u00a0was\u00a0located\u00a0approximately 100 miles\u00a0north\u00a0in Napa County, according to the San Joaquin\u00a0County\u00a0Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Atvar Singh,\u00a0a resident of Tracy where\u00a0he\u00a0worked\u00a0as the temple\u2019s head cook for 23 years, was\u00a0reported missing on Feb.\u00a017, the sheriff\u2019s officials said in a\u00a0news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old lived on the temple property with his wife and their 6-month-old triplets.\u00a0When his wife returned home from work that afternoon and found their children\u00a0alone, she\u00a0asked\u00a0other temple members\u00a0if they had seen him, but no one was able to\u00a0locate\u00a0him.<\/p>\n

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators\u00a0showed\u00a0three unidentified men in a\u00a0white SUV\u00a0pull\u00a0into the temple\u2019s parking lot around 2:30 p.m., KTLA\u2019s Bay\u00a0Area\u00a0sister station\u00a0KRON reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One\u00a0man knocked on the door to the temple\u2019s laundry,\u00a0knocking\u00a0on Singh\u2019s door.\u00a0According to the Los Angeles Times, Singh may have been mistaken for someone else\u00a0because, after a brief exchange and a phone call, the\u00a0man\u00a0attempted\u00a0to push him into the SUV, though Singh was able to stave the man off. <\/p>\n

The two other men were then seen exiting the vehicle, assaulting the 57-year-old and\u00a0loading him into the SUV.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe a different individual was a target and that Mr. Singh was mistakenly taken,\u201d\u00a0Heather Brent,\u00a0a spokesperson for the\u00a0San Joaquin\u00a0County Sheriff\u2019s\u00a0Office, told\u00a0The Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Investigators said that on Feb. 20,\u00a0a fisherman\u00a0spotted Singh\u2019s body near Lake Berryessa and called local law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur detectives are working tirelessly to investigate this case and\u00a0identify\u00a0those responsible for this terrible act,\u201d\u00a0sheriff\u2019s\u00a0officials said. \u201cBased on the information known at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a GoFundMe organized for the family, Singh was remembered as a dedicated member of the community and a devoted husband and father.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was known for his humility, quiet dedication, and loving nature that made everyone feel like family,\u201d organizers wrote. \u201cHis seva, sincerity, and unwavering faith touched countless lives, and his absence leaves a profound void in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities have not yet released the exact cause of Singh\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
