out of the NHL since 2021<\/a>, when the league determined Quenneville had an \u201cinadequate response\u201d to allegations of sexual assault within the Chicago Blackhawks when he was coach of the team.<\/p>\nAsked if he ever thought he would get another coaching opportunity, Quenneville said, \u201cIt\u2019s something I don\u2019t think about. My motivation, my goals were always once you win a Cup one time, you can\u2019t wait to do it again. And that\u2019s always been the reason why we\u2019re doing what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
After his first two head coaching stops with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, Quenneville had a highly successful run with the Blackhawks \u2014 which included three Stanley Cup championships \u2014 before a stint with the Florida Panthers, which ended with his resignation in 2021.<\/p>\n
Bowman\u2019s record might be out of reach, as it likely would take Quenneville at least five more seasons to reach him. But Quenneville remains comfortably ahead as the active leader, with Paul Maurice\u2019s 945 wins ranking third all-time.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I look back \u2026 we\u2019ve always had good teams wherever we were fortunate to go,\u201d Quenneville said. \u201cFrom the management staff to the coaching staff, and we had a lot of great players. I think that might be the thing that made it special. I\u2019m happy to be getting the opportunity to be back in the game and to be around a team like we have right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the game, Anaheim defenseman Jacob Trouba spoke about Quenneville\u2019s influence on the Ducks. \u201cVery happy for him,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s come out here, he\u2019s been a great coach for us. I think he\u2019s been just kind of a breath of fresh air coming in here and we\u2019re excited to play for him. He\u2019s a good coach.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas, who also played under Quenneville in Florida, said the coach\u2019s understanding of the game makes it easy to learn from him, and that he has the ability to balance what his teams need in a specific moment while managing an entire group over the long grind.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way he\u2019s looking at the game, and the other team, is something you can\u2019t really teach,\u201d Gudas said. \u201cIt just has to come with experience. Being the second one that can do it or will do it is absolutely, in the history of the game, incredible. Something you can\u2019t describe. That is one of the most special things that a coach, I would say, can do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane, who won the Hart Trophy while playing under Quenneville in Chicago, said: \u201cHe understands who\u2019s going and who\u2019s not, and who to play, and who to put in what situation. If he needs to switch up things, or switch up lines, he\u2019s the best at that. And I think his understanding of how to get the most out of a team throughout the full season \u2014 not just day-to-day, or rash decisions, but understanding what\u2019s best for the team throughout a whole 82-game season, he\u2019s obviously incredible at that, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
