San Francisco’s Marina District is still buzzing after Saturday’s Red Bull Formula 1 Showrun – but not all of the reaction is positive.<\/p>\n
“One of these random kids decides to grope one of my friend’s breasts,” Auerbach said. “She then turns around and throws a drink at him. And another one rolls up on me, spits in my face. Then the first guy that rolled up on me, socks me in the face and they just start destroying my car.”<\/p>\n
The car had broken glass, visible damage and even a shoeprint left behind.<\/p>\n
“All these kids are just looking for trouble,” Auerbach said. “They want to hurt people. They want to cause trouble. It’s ridiculous. And it’s getting really out of hand.”<\/p>\n
It was a nightmare scenario for Auerbach’s mother, Jasmine Freeman.<\/p>\n
“You know, when your son, who is a good kid and who is responsible and respectful, who doesn’t get in trouble, calls you in absolute panic- yeah, it was really scary,” Freeman said.<\/p>\n
Freeman said she reached out to us because of our reporting on similar incidents, including another in San Francisco and one in Santa Clara.<\/p>\n

This is the latest in a string of violent incidents involving bicycle “ride outs”, a rapidly growing trend where large, often informal groups of cyclists — from dozens to thousands — gather to ride through city streets.<\/p>\n John Hildago suffered broken ribs and vertebrae after that attack, which was also shared by the riders on social media.<\/p>\n We talked to him Thursday and told us he still has yet to hear an update from Santa Clara police about the incident.<\/p>\n Freeman hopes raising awareness of the attacks will lead to safer streets for all.<\/p>\n “It seems like these kids are in every city,” Freeman said. “So, I’m just hopeful that by getting more exposure and, you know, people finding out more about it, that people will start reporting it more.”<\/p>\n Freeman says she reached out to the Mayor Daniel Lurie’s office who connected her to SFPD.<\/p>\n Here’s the full statement by SFPD:<\/p>\n “On 02\/21\/2026 at approximately 5:01 p.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the 300 block of Jefferson Street regarding a battery and vandalism.
Officers were advised that a group of juveniles had battered two victims and vandalized a vehicle.
Officers arrived on scene and met with two victims. One victim was suffering from injuries associated with a possible assault. The victim declined further medical attention.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were approached by multiple subjects on bicycles. The subjects engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim. The victim attempted to leave the area in his vehicle when the subjects followed him. When the victim was inside his vehicle, the subjects battered the victim and began vandalizing his car.
During the incident, a second victim was battered by one of the suspects. The victim fled into the first victim’s vehicle prior to the suspects surrounding and damaging the vehicle.
