Tax shock: People report identity theft after getting 1099 tax forms from Uber despite never driving for them<\/a><\/p>\nLos Angeles residents Patrick and Cristina Lennon are self-employed and used to filing tax forms that come with owning your own business.<\/p>\n
But they were shocked a couple of weeks ago when Cristina got a 1099 tax form from Uber.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0form is typically sent to people who work as freelancers or contractors, but Cristina said she\u2019s never driven for Uber.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I opened the form, I saw that it was her name, addressed to her, last two digits of her social security number,\u201d Patrick Lennon said. \u201cSo, we were pretty concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrick and Cristina Lennon reached out to Uber after Cristina got two 1099 tax forms from the rideshare company. She says she’s never driven for them, and Uber responded to the couple, saying they “found signs of identity theft.”<\/p>\n
