San Francisco Opera has announced details of its 104th\u00a0season, and General Director Matthew Shilvock is feeling proud of what\u2019s coming.<\/p>\n
The season, set to run Sept. 12 through June 25, 2027, has a full array of productions, concerts and special events on the calendar.<\/p>\n
The fall season performances in the War Memorial Opera House begin with Verdi\u2019s \u201cSimon Boccanegra,\u201d conducted by company music director Eun Sun Kim and directed by Claus Guth, and featuring a \u201cNew to San Francisco\u201d production featuring Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role (Sept. 12-27), followed by Thea Musgrave\u2019s rarity, \u201cMary, Queen of Scots\u201d starring Heidi Stober (Sept. 20-Oct. 4), in a co-production with English National Opera. Fall operas also include Massenet\u2019s \u201cManon\u201d (Oct. 15-Nov. 1), and Mozart\u2019s \u201cThe Marriage of Figaro,\u201d in Michael Cavanagh\u2019s acclaimed production (Oct. 31-Nov. 19); Nov. 6 brings a \u201cStrauss in Concert\u201d event.<\/p>\n
Summer 2027 brings Wagner\u2019s \u201cDas Rheingold\u201d (May 29-June 22, 2027), and Shawna Lucey directs Puccini\u2019s \u201cTosca\u201d (June 4-July 2). The season comes to an exuberant close with the June 25, 2027 \u201cPride Concert.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other singers announced to appear on the schedule include Amina Edris, Hadleigh Adams, Pene Pati, Brian Mulligan, Quinn Kelsey, and Rachel Willis-Sorensen.<\/p>\n
Concerts featuring music by Massenet, Mozart and Puccini are also on the schedule. The company\u2019s free Opera in the Park is 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in Robin Williams Meadow in Golden Gate Park. The annual Opera Ball benefit is Sept. 12.<\/p>\n
Coming directly from the success of the company\u2019s recent world premiere of \u201cThe Monkey King,\u201d to introducing the new season, General Director Shilvock said that opera is a singular experience for audiences. \u201cWatching these works, audience members become not casual observers, but participants,\u201d he said. \u201cIn these moments of unbridled love and tragic grief, we see it onstage and put ourselves into it with a shared feeling of empathy. That\u2019s the glorious feeling of opera.<\/p>\n
