(WLOX) &#8211; A gas line rupture in downtown Long Beach forced the evacuation of one business Friday afternoon after a contractor struck the line while digging at a nearby construction site.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"First responders on the scene of a gas line rupture on Feb. 27.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/FVIP6YBASZBVPEZ2AD2RATNGXA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>First responders on the scene of a gas line rupture on Feb. 27.(WLOX)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fire Chief Griff Skellie told WLOX News Now that a contractor working on a new hotel on Jeff Davis Avenue hit the line while digging with an excavator. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Skellie said the locations of underground utilities at the construction site had been properly marked, but the excavator came too close.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Firefighters checked nearby businesses for a gas smell and determined that only a nearby title company needed to evacuate. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"First responders on the scene of a gas line rupture on Feb. 27.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/NFNOGXS3WRHQJFZTYMEM7SNEKI.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>First responders on the scene of a gas line rupture on Feb. 27.(WLOX)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A crew from the gas company is working to repair the ruptured line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">No injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammar error in this story?
