Long Beach police<\/a>.<\/p>\n\u201cThe victim attempted to flee, but the suspect pursued him on foot and fired several shots, striking the victim,\u201d police said. \u201cThe suspect then approached and pistol-whipped the victim\u201d before running off.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to the 5300 block of Elm Avenue shortly before 1 p.m., where they found the boy suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.<\/p>\n
Police said officers provided lifesaving aid, including chest seals and a tourniquet, before paramedics took him to a local hospital in critical condition. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.<\/p>\n
Gang detectives later identified the suspected shooter as a 14-year-old Long Beach resident. He was arrested Monday in Lakewood.<\/p>\n
Detectives also arrested 19-year-old Jian Xavier Salas for his alleged role in the attack. Salas was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and accessory after the fact. His bail was set at $75,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe attempted murder of a 14-year-old by another 14-year-old is both tragic and disheartening. I am incredibly grateful for the immediate medical aid provided by our responding officers,\u201d Chief of Police Wally Hebeish said. \u201cFurther, through their efforts, detectives arrested two suspects within 24 hours, reinforcing our commitment to stopping all forms of violence in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police have not released information about a possible motive or what evidence ties the suspects to the shooting, but said the case remains under active investigation.<\/p>\n
Detectives have forwarded the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney\u2019s Office for filing consideration.<\/p>\n
