BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 California Water Service started work on two water infrastructure upgrades that they say will improve water supply reliability and fire protection in downtown Bakersfield.<\/p>\n
Cal Water crews began construction on two projects, installing a combined 2,200 feet of new 10- and eight-inch water main and three new fire hydrants.<\/p>\n
The projects will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Wall and Service streets.<\/p>\n
The projects are expected to be completed in April.<\/p>\n
Rafael Molina, Bakersfield District Manager, said, \u201cImprovements like these keep the water system safe and reliable for our customers\u2019 daily needs and to support first responders as they work to protect our community, especially in our downtown. Our infrastructure improvement projects provide quality, service, and value to the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Temporary asphalt will be applied until permanent paving is completed.<\/p>\n
Cal Water and the City of Bakersfield will work together to perform the permanent paving when the city completes its sewer project in August.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, and we will notify customers in advance of any temporary water service interruptions,\u201d Molina said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
