{"id":197067,"date":"2026-02-27T21:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T21:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/197067\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T21:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T21:36:07","slug":"2-arrested-for-attempted-murder-in-shooting-of-14-year-old-boy-in-long-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/197067\/","title":{"rendered":"2 arrested for attempted murder in shooting of 14-year-old boy in Long Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">LOS ANGELES &#8211; Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the violent shooting and beating of a 14-year-old boy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/tag\/us\/ca\/los-angeles-county\/long-beach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Long Beach.<\/a><\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTTV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">The incident began around 12:50 p.m. Sunday when the victim was walking south on Locust Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">According to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD), an unknown man approached the boy and chased him as he tried to run away, and fired multiple shots at him.<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">Once the boy was on the ground, the suspect allegedly pistol-whipped him before running away.<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">Responding officers were able to save the boy&#8217;s life by providing medical aid, including chest seals and a tourniquet, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">An investigation led to the arrests of 19-year-old Jian Xavier Salas and a 14-year-old boy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/tag\/us\/ca\/los-angeles-county\/lakewood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lakewood <\/a>the following day.<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">Salas was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and being an accessory after the fact, with bail set at $75,000.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTTV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">What we don&#8217;t know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">The name of the 14-year-old suspect is being withheld because he is a minor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTTV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">&#8220;No child should ever be subjected to any form of violence, and no one should ever be involved in committing such a brazen and heartless act,&#8221; said Long Beach Chief of Police Wally Hebeish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-1b07e41a=\"\">&#8220;The attempted murder of a 14-year-old by another 14-year-old is both tragic and disheartening. I am incredibly grateful for the immediate medical aid provided by our responding officers.
