{"id":197219,"date":"2026-02-27T23:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T23:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/197219\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T23:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T23:38:10","slug":"new-era-in-cypress-as-council-selects-new-city-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/197219\/","title":{"rendered":"New era in Cypress as Council selects new city manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/event-newsenterprise.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/CypressCityHall.jpg\" data-caption=\"Cypress City Hall&#010;Courtesy photo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"328\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/CypressCityHall-696x328.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"CypressCityHall\"\/><\/a>Cypress City Hall<br \/>\nCourtesy photo<\/p>\n<p>After a vote Monday by the Cypress City Council, what seems like a new era is finally underway.<\/p>\n<p>The board has a majority of new city council members, a new logo, a new legal counsel, a new meeting day and now, the Council has voted unanimously to approve Shannon DeLong as its new city manager.<\/p>\n<p>She replaces former city manager Peter Grant, who left Cypress after nearly a decade in the driver\u2019s seat and who is now the City Manager in the City of Yorba Linda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShannon distinguished herself throughout the recruitment process with her depth of experience, strategic insight and clear commitment to public service,\u201d said Mayor Leo Medrano in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer leadership marks an exciting new chapter for our City and we look forward to the energy and vision she brings to Cypress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before she was hired by the Cypress Council, DeLong was the Assistant City Manager in Whittier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City Council engaged in an extensive and comprehensive competitive search for its new City Manager. Following the completion of that process, the City Council has selected Shannon DeLong as the candidate who is best qualified to serve as the City Manager for the City of Cypress,\u201d the city said in announcing the selection.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/IMG_4049.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28657\" style=\"width:206px;height:auto\"  \/>Shannon DeLong named new Cypress City Manager. She leaves Whittier as Assistant City Manager and starts her new position in Cypress March 30. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. DeLong has extensive experience in city management. For the past eight years, she has served as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Whittier. Prior to Whittier, Ms. DeLong worked for the City of Downey as the Assistant to the City Manager and the Library Director.
