In the wake of the U.S. and Israel\u2019s launch of airstrikes against Iran<\/a>, police in Los Angeles will increase patrols in places of worship and community spaces out of an abundance of caution, Mayor Karen Bass said on Saturday.<\/p>\n The attack against Iran was launched Saturday morning, killing at least 200 people and injuring more than 700 others, according to Iranian state media. Following the strike, President Donald Trump said he \u201cfeels\u201d reports that Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack were \u201ccorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n In response, Iran sent retaliatory missiles and drones toward U.S. military bases in the region and Israel.<\/p>\n Although Bass said it doesn\u2019t appear there are any credible threats against Los Angeles at this time, police are stepping up security in the city.<\/p>\n \u201cWe understand that many Angelenos are affected and deeply concerned, and encourage everyone to voice their views in a peaceful way,\u201d Bass said in a statement.<\/a><\/p>\n The mayor added that she encourages “everyone to voice their views in a peaceful way.”<\/p>\n In Westwood, dozens of demonstrators waved Iranian and American flags in response to the U.S.’s actions. Meanwhile in downtown Los Angeles, protesters denounced the airstrikes.<\/p>\n
